The pituitary gland is an endocrine organ in the central nervous system. It is responsible for the synthesis, storage and release of numerous hormones that regulate most of the endocrine glands in the body or act directly on certain organs. Together with the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland controls the involuntary (vegetative) nervous system. This monitors and regulates the energy, heat and water balance - and thus body temperature, heartbeat and urine output, as well as sleep, hunger and thirst. The optimal function of the pituitary gland is related to the condition of the cells of the pituitary gland. The protein biosynthesis is the formation of new proteins in cells and thus the process of gene expression, which is of central importance for all living things and in which proteins are built up from amino acids according to genetic information.
